Great performance of an average script

First of all, the cast was AMAZING. They poured their hearts and souls into their performances. Additionally, the songs were very cleaver and catchy. Unfortunately, my taste in comedy does not align with this play. Everyone knows going into the show that it is not going to put the LDS church in the greatest light, however I did not expect the blatant disregard for the plight and culture of the Ugandan characters. Mormon's have a choice "to believe", however someone born in Uganda and thus subject to an Aids epidemic, poverty and war-lords does not deserve to be mocked as they are in this play. Additionally, I found that the play really made an effort to practically hit you over the head with jokes about the oddities of the LDS church and their beliefs. For me, I enjoy a comedy that shows you the humorous situations and allows the audience to connect the dots and find the humor. I found that this play went over the top to drive home what should have been humorous situations independently and did not require the extra efforts. Yes, I laughed, and the people around me laughed a lot, but at the end of the day I was only marginally entertained.
